What You Need to Know About PRINCE2 Project Management Weekend

If you’re a project manager, you know that your job isn’t done once your project is implemented.  You need to make sure that your project runs smoothly, that your employees work to the best of their ability, and that there are no problems.

This is why you need to learn more about project management: that’s when you learn how to create a plan of action for a project, execute that plan, and monitor progress and outcomes. As on a PRINCE2 Weekend London course training.

Here’s what you need to know about project management:

1. Make sure that you have a plan before you start

This is the most important thing you can do.  You need to have a plan before you begin any project.  You can’t go into a new project without a plan; a plan will ensure that you have one.

You need to be prepared to create a plan and to stick to it.  You need to be able to control your environment while you’re implementing your plan.

Having a plan will help you control your project and you will have a better chance of success.

2. Ensure that your plan is realistic

You want a realistic plan, right?  If you want one, you need to do your research.  You need to make sure that you thoroughlyathom, in your own mind, how you’re going to achieve your project.  It is possible, even likely, that there are things that you won’t be able to achieve or will be very difficult to achieve.  You need to ascertain what that is, but if it’s more likely than not, you need to go back to the drawing board.

If you’re driving from point A to point B and your GPS is telling you that you’ll be driving somewhere along the route from you’re hour, to where your destination is, you need to ensure that your project allows for that and that it’s achievable.  The advantage of a realistic plan is that you’ll be more successful and your project will be smoother than one that is unrealistic.

3. Keep track of your efforts

Good project managers realize that what they aspire to happen is often a long process.  Yes, it’s possible to undertake an entire project successfully, but not every possible project is something that you’ll be able to do in one go.  Because of this, you need to do this kind of planning continuously to ensure that you always have the best chance of success.

The catch is that most people don’t keep that many notes.  If you are asking yourself questions like, “What will I do now?  What am I going to do tomorrow?” you need to make sure that you’re taking down notes and keeping track of what you’re doing.  If you’re not, how will you remember what you need to do?  boring!

4. Ensuring that your website is hosted and maintained

It’s tough to stay on top of your website!  It’s hard to keep your site updated and manage it.  With your project management qualities, making sure that the hosting company takes care of the behind-the-scenes work can be sweet.  Keeping your web presence cleaned and well-maintained will ensure that your site stays up to date and gives visitors a good impression.

If a hosting company messes up one of your critical pages, you can’t just delete the page and move on.  Thanks to the technical aspect of web hosting, support, and regular updates, this is unfortunately not something that can be done overnight.  Taking control over the day-to-day work of your website ensuring that it’s well maintained and responsive to changes can save you money in the long run.

5. Take advantage of vision

Many business leaders are off to great lengths to monitor cost, revenue, and other figures, and to ensure that they accurately reflect these statistics, they will continuously go to their own web designers and web developers.  Unfortunately, it still requires that they obtain the right software.

Keeping track of your website, as in any other Microsoft Windows software, takes a bit of training and knowledge.  Once you make and understand how to do this work for yourself, you’ll want to do it all over again.  However – the point is to grow your knowledge base to the point where you’ll be comfortable enough to take control if and when your web developer needs minor technical clarification.

There are other techniques that you can put in place that will ensure that you’re in control.  For example, for your web design, there are numerous ways that you can integrate your website with other servers and web applications.  The real power of being in control of your website depends on you being in control of it.

6. Risk control

This ties in closely with management, productivity management, and so on.
